First Trip in our camper

We decided to do our first camp close to home just to be sure we have all the bugs worked out of our new to us 96' Winnebago Brave. The first night I learned quite a few lessons. The first one was camp chairs bite! HARD!!
This is the under side of my arm that got pinched in the chairs as I set them up (ouch!)
Second lesson was do not let my husband be in control of the keys, as he locked my purse (w/ the spare keys inside it) in the camper w/ both our phones with an approaching thunder storm.
Thank goodness Lazy Days is where we chose to camp for this trial run, they are certainly on their game here and had us back in our motor home in minutes as they have master keys for all campers. Was so thankful to be back in the coach but it left me w/ a less than secure feeling about my door locks.
Following that fiasco (hopefully my honey learned a lesson here) I prepared our dinner on the Weber Q grill which turned out awesome, the steaks were grilled to perfection andYUMMY! We decided to rent a redbox DVD and that was when we discovered the DVD player wouldn't work. (worked fine in our driveway a week ago, go figure) Ended up watching it on my net book computer Was way less than comfortable. Then Brad went to bed & Smokie our almost blind 8 year old Yorkie got really sick I was up all night with the poor thing. Found out why this morning via e-mail, his bully treat stix were recalled due to salmonella!! So I am running on maybe 2 hours of sleep today its 5:00 and I am starting to feel like I'll be lucky to make it to 8pm!
Upon rising I discover (oh joy, Murphy is still here with us) wet carpet (no, not the dogs) a leaking valve on toilet was the cause.BUT once again, because we are here at Lazy Days we simply jumped on our bikes and took a short ride over to Campers World where we were able to procure a valve replacement kit for $23 bucks and in less than an hour my brilliant husband had it fixed. So glad we are not far from home with no resources experiencing these issues.

On a more positive note the A/C works great as does the refrigerator and stove (will test the oven tonight) The new mattress is too firm for us and will require a memory foam topper! The dogs are doing really well and aside from the sleep deprivation are great little campers! We have a list of things we will bring next time that we forgot but that is what this exercise was all about. Figuring all that out before we take a long trip. So in closing I will say this has not been the relaxing get away from all the work we have put into this rig that we thought, but it has been educational.
Oh I almost forgot! I drove a 40 foot diesel pusher Friday after driving class. I was pretty freaked out when I got behind the wheel, but I did it! I did however run over one of the cones so I am now know as the "cone killer" to the others that took the class w/ us. The "dot" system that they teach here is awesome. We feel very confident about driving now, thanks to Bob Bergeron here at Lazy Days! Thanks Bob.
